Important Suspended Garage Storage Loft & Shelving Questions Answered

What is the minimum height required above my garage door tracks and opener for a Garage Attic Storage Loft?

Ideally, you should have at least 36″ between the top of your garage door tracks and/or opener and the ceiling. If you have less than 36” we recommend that you schedule a free on-site consultation to make a definitive assessment and to discuss your options accordingly.

How long does a typical Garage Attic Storage Loft project take to complete?

A Suspended Garage Storage Loft in a standard 1-car garage takes just one day to complete and a standard 2-car garage loft takes just two days to complete.

Do you need access to the inside of my home and/or do I need to be home during the installation of my new Garage Attic Storage Loft?

No, we simply need access to your garage and you do not need to be home. You can go about your day as normal while we add hundreds of additional square footage of storage space to your home.

Is there a standard size for a Garage Attic Storage Loft?

Most 1-car garages are 10 to 11 feet wide and most 2-car garages are 20 to 22 feet wide. We utilize the entire width of your garage at a depth that extends just past the garage door opener or roughly 11 feet deep. This gives you approximately 120 square foot of additional storage area in a 1-car garage and 230 square feet of additional storage space in a 2-car garage.

How will my Garage Attic Storage Loft be supported?

Our Garage Attic Storage Loft system is supported by a high-strength, engineered LVL wood beam that spans the entire width of your garage. The beam is posted down to your foundation eliminating the need for additional support from above or below and without placing any additional stress on your homes existing structure.

What is the maximum width and depth for a Garage Attic Storage Loft without the need to use additional support from above or below?

We will not span further than 24 feet in width without the use of additional support. If your garage is wider than 24 feet we recommend that you schedule a free on-site consultation so we can make a definitive assessment and discuss your options accordingly.

Does the depth of a Garage Attic Storage Loft need to extend past the garage door opener?

Yes, because the 6” tall platform of our Storage Loft system extends directly over your existing garage door tracks and opener, however, the engineered LVL wood support beam is 12″ tall. Therefore, in order to maximize your vertical storage space the top of the beam is flush with the top of the loft platform while the bottom of the beam extends down below the top of the garage door opener.

What happens to the hangers for my garage door tracks and opener(s) when the Garage Attic Storage Loft is installed?

Our Storage Loft system extends directly over your existing garage door tracks and opener and we do not rehang your equipment. When we install the lofts plywood flooring we simply cut around the existing supports leaving your door(s) and opener(s) to operate as usual.

Are access portal(s) necessary to get to the things stored on a Garage Attic Storage Loft?

Due to the massive size and depth of our Garage Attic Storage Lofts we recommend portals to allow for easy access to your belongings, especially for the items that are stored closest to the garage door side of the loft.

What do I need to do to prepare for the installation of my new Garage Attic Storage Loft once it has been scheduled?

We require that you move all of your personal belongings to the back side of the garage giving us unobstructed access from the front of the garage to about three feet past your garage door opener(s). On the day(s) we will be installing your new Garage Attics Storage Loft, we will need you to move your vehicles out of the garage and/or driveway and to provide access to a working electrical outlet inside of your garage. /vc_toggle]

Will you load all of my belongings onto my new Suspended Garage Storage Loft once it has been completed?

No, we recommend that you load your new Garage Attic Storage Loft so that you know where all your belongings are located when needed.

Is a building permit required to install a Garage Attic Storage Loft?

No, a building permit is not required. Our work is performed in your existing garage, within the footprint of your home and is far less costly than the minimum contract amount at which the state of North Carolina requires a permit for.

Will the installation of a Garage Attic Storage Loft effect the builders warranty for my home?

Since your new Garage Attic Storage Loft will be supported by an engineered LVL wood beam that is posted down to your foundation, no additional load is placed on the ceiling or floor structure above it and so it will have no effect on your warranty.

What does the Garage Attics Lifetime Warranty cover?

Our Lifetime Warranty covers all materials and labor that we install under our written contract with you so you can rest assured that any issue with these items will be resolved at no additional charge to you. Any exclusions to the warranty coverage pertaining to your specific project and/or special circumstances will be clearly stated in your contract.

What are the payment terms for a Garage Attic Storage Loft project and what payment types do you accept?

We require a 50% deposit with the balance due upon completion. We accept cash, checks, debit and credit cards for your convenience.
